ver a hundred years ago on the site of the museum stood the Harvie and Mosher shipyards. Between them, they built and launched 160 sailing ships. These ships sailed the oceans bringing Newport Landing to the world and the world to Newport Landing. Many more ships were built in the communities along the Avon River - Windsor, Hantsport, Mt. Denson, Burlington, Summerville, Kempt and Horton.

Our museum features exhibits of this time as well as exhibits on the New England Planters, local house histories, family histories and Avon River ecology. Our guides and volunteers are ready to answer any questions you may have.

If you’re hungry for more than history, relax and enjoy a scenic lunch overlooking the Avon River on our deck at the Lydia and Sally Café. Souvenirs and locally-handcrafted gifts are available from our SeaChest Giftshop. Free community highspeed internet is also available, and the museum is Wi-Fi (wireless).

If you time it right, you can also watch the Minas Basin tidal bore from the highest tides in the world, the Bay of Fundy.
